About Lambda Psi Omega Chapter
The chartering of Lambda Psi Omega Chapter was spearheaded by Mrs. Pauline Cauthorne Morton. Mrs. Morton was initiated in 1931 at Virginia State College for Negroes, now known as Virginia State University. She went on to become a charter member of Zeta Epsilon Omega in Suffolk, VA, in 1954. Subsequently, other sorority members from the Franklin/Southampton area joined the Suffolk chapter, and they all drove to meetings together. When their commuting numbers grew large enough to support a separate chapter, the Regional Director at the time, Mrs. Janet Ballard, allowed the formation of the Lambda Psi Omega Chapter in the Franklin/Southampton area. The chapter was chartered on March 19, 1978.
Since its chartering, the membership of Lambda Psi Omega has included some of the most prominent and successful members of the community in the fields of education, medicine, social work and counseling, law, music, real estate, business, and more. Our members have led the way in achievements, honors, awards, and promotions, in their respective professions or organizations on national, state, and local levels; and we have used our various experiences and expertise to work together in accomplishing the goal of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® --"Service to All Mankind."
